The recipe for La Perla's vacchetta is simple - start with an excellent natural veg tan leather, hot stuff it in a drum with animal fats (to soften and nourish), air dry, and enjoy.
The process of hot stuffing the leather with animal fats requires tumbling the leather in a heated drum. Tumbling essentially massages the leather and loosens it, while also giving the grain a slightly pebbled texture. With the infusion of fats in to the leather, it become richer, denser, and more resilient/weatherproof than when it started.
GRADING:
- Grade A - Great quality, very little to no flaws beside what is mentioned above.
- Grade B - Not-so-perfect - will have more noticeable range marks or scratches, broken grain, or slight color variation over a small portion of the panel.
