DLS Service - Mail-in Custom Leather Splitting

Have leather sitting around not being used because it's too thick?  Maybe you bought it for a certain project that you're no longer pursuing, or maybe you scooped it up for a great deal not realizing how thick it was.  Many projects, like bags, shoes, wallets, etc. consist of multiple pieces required to be different thicknesses.  If the pieces are too thick, there is a higher risk of producing an inferior quality, and possibly unusable, unattractive product.  

Splitting is performed on our industry-leading Italian Camoga splitting machine. It allows us to split leather up to 30 inches wide.  You can send us whatever size pieces you'd like, from full hides all the way down to individual pattern pieces.  

We have the capability to split many different types of leather including:

• Alligator and crocodile (legs will need to be removed prior to splitting)
• Other exotics that are completely flat (e.g., we cannot split the quilled section of ostrich skins)
• Vegetable tanned leather (full sides of very thick and dry leather like natural/skirting may present issues and need to be cut down to a few smaller sections)
• Chrome or oil tanned leather
  

Mail-in splitting is based on a rate of $75 per hour.  Our splitting operation runs efficiently, so you may be pleasantly surprised with the final cost.  Once completed, we will send you an invoice for the final cost plus the total shipping cost.

A $15 deposit is required to reserve your spot in our queue and will be deducted from the final cost of service. The average turnaround time is 5-10 business days.

When an order is placed, you will receive a form to fill out (please check spam folders). Once completed and sent back to us, we will send you a shipping label if you've elected to request one. If you prefer using your own label, you can ship with a carrier of your choice to:

Please note, splitting to an precise thickness may not be possible since leather naturally varies in density and structure.  Because of this, we aim to achieve +/- a half ounce (0.2mm) of the desired thickness.  Additionally, splitting below 2oz (0.8mm ) is possible, but presents a much higher risk that the leather may become perforated.  Please reach out to us beforehand if you are looking to have leather split below that thickness.
